3 Ways to Share Your Christmas with Those in Need

For quite a few years now, we at St. Stephen’s have teamed up with the Salvation Army to do this. Below are three ways you can be involved. If you’re interested in being involved, talk to David Nearpass or Ruth Itamura—or click here to send an email (choose Salvation Army Outreach in the drop-down menu).

Volunteer to Staff Christmas Intake

The first of three volunteer sign-up sheets for the Salvation Army Christmas programs have been placed in the Great Hall.  The Christmas Intake Program will require two volunteers for each two hour shift on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday beginning on October 28th and concluding November 7th.  There is an additional two-hour shift each Wednesday beginning at 4:00pm.  Our volunteers will be updating client applications.  The volunteer sheets will be taken to the Salvation Army following the October 20th service.

Ring Bells by the Red Kettle

Kroger South (4714 South Highway 41) will be our location to ring bells for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Program. The first Thursday, Friday and Saturday of December have been reserved for our volunteers.  The two hour shifts begin each day at 11:00am with the last starting at 5:00pm. On Friday, December 6, there will be an additional one-hour shift from 7:00 – 8:00.  The deadline to sign up for the Red Kettle program is Sunday, November 24th.

Adopt a Family

St. Stephen’s will adopt two families who will be selected by the Salvation Army to receive Christmas gifts and a dinner.  A small Christmas tree will be placed in the Great Hall with angel tags indicating gift requests.  Specific plans will be shared after November 11th when our families are assigned.
