In just a few weeks, we are entering a time of clergy and congregational renewal – which is the word the Lilly Foundation prefers over Sabbatical – because it speaks to the intent of the time. It is a time in which a clergy person and their family can seek renewal through rest and discovery. And the congregation has the opportunity to do the same!
We received a competitive grant last fall to enable our rector to have a time of leave-taking and for the congregation to join him in active renewal. What I will be doing for those three months is creating creative experiences with my family – concerts and shows, trips to museums and parks, eating incredible food. And the congregation will too (differently)!
We will celebrate the start of our leave-taking and our reunion in September. And all the while, we will gather and share, exploring and creating, and in the end, we will have stories and pictures to share with one another. Of joy and creating and living; signs of renewal.
