According to tradition, Lent is a season of penitence and fasting. The season when newcomers prepared for baptism, notorious sinners prepared for reconciliation, and the community prepared for all of this coming together on Easter.
As the Book of Common Prayer describes it, we observe a holy Lent
“by self-examination and repentance;
by prayer, fasting, and self-denial;
and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word.”
So how might we do Lent in a way that actually encourages us to do this work?
Messy Church
Sundays, 11:30-12:30
Messy Church is an experiment in social creativity. A time of gathering for self-examination and prayerful creativity with others. To engage with scripture and our place in it. And to make something with it.
We’ll have a few supplies, paper, pens, markers, but if you want to go further, bring those materials with you. Paint, brushes, and canvas, an instrument and recording equipment, or yarn, needles, and a new pattern.
We’ll gather, create, and reflect during our regular coffee hour. What will you make?
Youth Gathering*
Sundays, 1:00-2:00
Youth, grades 6th through 12th are invited to the ABC’s of The Episcopal Church through a lens of the Lenten season.
Adult Inquirer’s*
Sundays, 2:00-3:00
For newcomers and more experienced members alike, this is a weekly discussion time that is guided by participants, which can make it a bit of a pot-luck experience! Expect to discuss Episcopal Church tradition, theology, and structure — and what all of this means for us.
*NOTE: The Youth Gathering and Adult Inquirer’s are open to all. They are particularly suitable for those looking to be confirmed in or join The Episcopal Church and those interested in renewing their faith.
